Jobes Henderson designed this roadway extension project which includes bridge over Ramp Creek, site improvements and roadway design. This $2.9 million project extends James Parkway north from Kaiser Drive to Irving Wick Drive West improving safety and public access on the eastern side of the Base Campus while opening up another 70 acres of property on the campus for development.

This project was the third phase of the roadway extension and involved designing a new front entrance into existing Heath Newark Licking County Port Authority facilities. The design incorporates an urban look with an aesthetic bridge, curb and gutter, storm sewers and a pedestrian path. The roadway then transitions to an open ditch roadway more typical of the existing industrial park setting. We were able to improve the alignment and combine the goals and ideas of the Port Authority and The City of Heath and bring them together within the budget.

The site improvements made with this extension included a boulevard style entrance, rerouting truck traffic with a secondary access point and, improving the safety and pedestrian traffic with sidewalks, raised islands and green space. We also added motorcycle and bicycle parking similar to the existing parking area on the west side of the campus.

The Bridge over Ramp Creek will provide a bikeway /walkway over the top that will eventually connect to a future City of Heath Bikeway leading to the City Water Park. To accommodate the trail, a wall type abutment was designed for the forward abutment. This abutment included curved wing walls, architectural concrete textures, concrete coloring and a custom balustrade on the parapet. The balustrade and concrete textures are carried across the bridge to provide an aesthetic them for the structure. The theme is highlighted by special light fixtures mounted on cylindrical columns at each corner of the bridge. The new bridge is a 100 foot single span box beam structure with several unique features. Other unique aesthetic characteristics include color, stone, and pebble finish on the concrete, special railings and lighting to create a unique entrance to the campus.
