Congratulations to Our Newest CST - April 21, 2008

Jay Kraft, Survey Project Manager with JHA, recently received National Society of Professional Surveyors Certification as a Survey Technician Level III. We congratulate Jay for his efforts in achieving this recognition.

This 4 level certification is a comprehensive national certification program for survey technicians. The program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor as part of the National Apprenticeship Program. The Survey Technician Certification Board (STCB), which administers this program, recognizes the importance of technicians to the surveying and mapping profession. Open Positions - March 24, 2008

JHA is accepting resumes to fill an opening for a fulltime Geographic Information Systems (GIS) position. The ideal candidate should possess basic knowledge of GIS computing skills and understand basic principles of mapping. The selected candidate will assist the GIS Manager on current projects through data creation, data entry, data management and client interaction.

Duties:

- Creating spatial features, developing databases, database management, data conversions, and performing spatial analyses
- Assist project managers produce visual exhibits for project meetings
- Researches, evaluates, recommends and implements technical and administrative solutions to achieve application objects to forward client goals
- Works closely and coordinates assignments with GIS Manager, Engineers, and Project Managers to obtain project information and ensure GIS applications are accurate and complete

Requirements:

- BA/BS degree in GIS, Cartography, Geography or other related field, GIS Certificate, or previous work experience in GIS.
- Knowledge of ESRI GIS software, creating and editing ESRI Geodatabases and other GIS data
- Good communication and organization skills
- Previous experience with or knowledge of Civil Engineering practices a plus

Congratulations to Our Professionals - December 19, 2007

We are proud to announce that two of our professionals have achieved certification with national professional associations. We firmly believe in continued education and the professional development of our staff and congratulate these individuals for their continued achievements within the industry and our firm.

Scott Haines, Project Engineer, has become a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC). He passed a national test held in Columbus in November and is among less than 5000 professionals nationwide that have achieved this certification. A CPESC is a recognized specialist in soil erosion and sediment control. CPESCs have educational training, demonstrated expertise, experience in controlling erosion and sedimentation, and meet certification standards. Courtney Van Ostran, Marketing Coordinator, earned the designation of Certified Professional Services Marketer in November, 2007. She is among a growing number of professionals to be certified by the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), which advocates for, educates, and connects leaders in the design and building industry.

Certified Professional Services Marketers (CPSMs) are recognized as having the experience and knowledge to generate profitable business in the architectural, engineering, and construction marketplace. To achieve this designation, certification candidates must meet educational and experience requirements, pass a rigorous written examination, and pledge to abide by the CPSM Code of Ethics. The process validates the individual’s mastery of and ability to apply critical business development knowledge in an industry that values certification.

Design Engineer(s)

Land Development
Responsibilities
Design of land development and public works projects. Preparation of construction drawings, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, grading plans, street improvements, utilities and specifications. Perform engineering calculations and design using specialized technical skills, experience and engineering judgment to transform concept designs into construction drawings and technical specifications. Coordinate projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants and firm staff. Provide sketches and/or detailed layout information to design staff for incorporation into the construction drawings. Provide project specific technical information to the Project Manager for incorporation into the project specifications.

Education
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or 10 years of experience in related civil design. Professional Engineer Registration in State of Ohio is not a requirement but would be preferred.

Experience
Minimum of two to five years experience in civil design.

Municipal/Transportation
Responsibilities
Civil engineering design of ODOT and local agency projects including urban and rural roadway design, planning, utility analysis and design. Responsibilities will include preparation of construction plans, permit applications, engineering reports, and exhibits under the direction of a Project Manager.

Education/Experience
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or 10 years of experience in related civil design. Proficiency in MicroStation preferred.

IT Technician
This position will be the single point of contact for all employees to receive support and maintenance within the company’s computing environment. Must provide installations, diagnosing, repairing and upgrading all workstation hardware and equipment to maintain optimal performance in networking environment. Person must be able to troubleshoot problem areas in a timely fashion, perform regular system maintenance, and oversee the Company’s Internet and Intranet platforms.

JHA Adds Prominent Engineers to Staff - September 24, 2007

Jobes Henderson & Associates, Inc. proudly announces the addition of Ronald K. Mattox, P.E. and G. Paul Denny, P.E., as Senior Transportation Engineers to our firm. Adding bridge design capabilities and over 36 years of transportation experience to our firm's qualifications.

Mr. Mattox has over 25 years of experience in the field of bridge and transportation engineering and will lead business development activities and projects for Jobes Henderson & Associates, Inc.’s growing headquarters in Newark, Ohio.

As a Project Manager Mr. Mattox has been directly responsible for projects ranging from standard bridge replacements to projects with construction costs in excess of $40 million dollars, several involving multiple disciplines and as many as 7 Subconsultants. Most notably the Broad Street Bridge project in Columbus that won the “Excellence in Highway Design Award” and the Ohio Department of Transportation’s “Henry Overman Design Award”.

Mr. Mattox, is a graduate of the Ohio State University and is a registered professional engineer in Ohio and Kentucky. As a resident of Westerville, Ohio, Mr. Mattox has worked for several national engineering firms in the Central Ohio area and is very well respected in the transportation industry.

G. Paul Denny, P.E. has over 10 years of experience in transportation engineering projects. He has managed complex roadway projects from preliminary engineering to final design. Prior to joining Jobes Henderson & Associates, Inc., Mr. Denny gained valuable project management experience at a large engineering firm in Columbus, OH managing projects such as the State Route 16/State Route 13 Interchange Safety Study in Newark, Ohio. Mr. Denny has a thorough knowledge of ODOT's policies and procedures including the PDP Process, and will be responsible for managing local public agency and ODOT transportation projects for JHA including public involvement and stakeholder coordination.

Mr. Denny is a graduate of The Ohio State University and is a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers, Ohio Society of Professional Engineers
Engineers Club of Columbus. He currently resides with his wife and son in Gahanna, Ohio.

USDA Awards 4 year renewable contract to Jobes Henderson - July 30, 2007

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, recently awarded Jobes Henderson & Associates, Inc. a 1 year contract, which is renewable for up to 4 years, to perform various wetland easement boundary surveys throughout the State of Ohio. This contract is in conjunction with NRCS Wetland Reserve Program.

Project News - July 19, 2007

Jobes Henderson (JHA) has been selected for the following new projects:

Transportation – We were selected to renovate and improve Country Club Drive in the City of Newark. We are currently under contract and have begun public involvement and preliminary engineering. In addition, JHA was selected by ODOT to renovate or replace an historical bridge in Washington County (WAS-SR 124) and were also selected by the Franklin County Metro Parks District to provide a new multi-use trail for the Darby Creek Greenway Trail extension on the west side of the Franklin County.

Survey – Our survey department was selected by the State of Ohio, Office of Information Technologies (OIT), under the Multi-Agency Radio Communications Services (MARCS) Program, to provide, as needed surveying services for various MARCS towers throughout the state. We have completed 26 different sites in Ohio and will continue to provide as needed services to the OIT. We were retained by AMP-OH to provide surveying services for a new power plant and landfill in Meigs County, OH. Teaming with BBCM, our team was selected by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to supply surveying services on an as needed basis for AML sites for a period of 2 years. We were also part of a team to provide surveying services for the renovation of a Bike Path at the Ohio State University and to assist several other Engineering firms with surveying services for a bridge on I-70 and wetland delineation in ODOT District 4.

Site Development – We are part of a team selected by Shawnee State University to renovate and add an additional 20,000 square feet to the University Center. Our services will include all site work, utility work and site survey. Our Site Development Department has been working with ProLogis on an Industrial Park in Etna for the last couple of years and just received the authorization to develop Buildings 3, 4 and 5. We were also selected to provide William Kraner with a feasibility study and construction drawings for a 99 acre development, Olde Orchard Farm Estates, in Granville Township.

Geographic Information System (GIS) – JHA has been selected as a team member to provide the Licking County Information Technologies Department, Geographic Information System (GIS) with Tax Map Rectification. JHA along with our team member will take the current digital parcels and rectify them in order that they better fit the current digital orthophotography.

Information Technology – The IT Department is committed to providing our clients with just some of the following services: Network Design and Implementation, Hardware and Software, System Diagnostics, Firewall and Security Protection, Backup and Recovery as well as Yearly Service Plans. JHA was selected to provide necessary IT support and services to the Licking Metropolitan Housing Authority. This general IT support and service includes a new email server, the updating of Windows software on existing server, networking of all computer stations and the taking care of all in-house IT systems. We were also selected by Licking/Knox Goodwill Industries to evaluate, upgrade and support all IT systems.
