Sustainability
Building with environmental sensitivity and responsibility in mind creates a cost effective product for the end user and provides longevity to the infrastructure design.

At JHA, we train and educate our personnel to integrate sustainability into our overall approach. Of course, not every project will have LEED certification goals. But our project managers’ familiarity with the efficiency and cost effectiveness of environmentally responsible and sensitive design provides you with a well-rounded perspective when working through your project.

Over the years, we’ve gathered a network of LEED accredited professionals with whom we partner. Together, we follow the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) development of LEED ND. In doing so we are well positioned to be granted this new certification when it is implemented.

Just look at the many ways sustainable design can benefit all of us:
  • Enhances and protects ecosystems and biodiversity
  • Improves air and water quality
  • Reduces solid waste
  • Conserves natural resources
  • Offers economic benefits—
    • - Reduces operating costs
    • - Enhances asset value and profits
    • - Improves end user productivity and satisfaction
    • - Optimizes life-cycle economic performance
  • Provides health and community benefits—
    • - Improves air, thermal, and acoustic environments
    • - Enhances occupant comfort and health
    • - Minimizes strain on local infrastructure
    • - Contributes to overall quality of life

Sustainability spotlight In 1993, Jobes Henderson & Associates, Inc. designed the first wetland mitigation bank in Ohio, allowing the Hebron Fish Hatchery—a pioneering facility in environmental restoration of native species in Ohio—to continue its vital work. Since then, we’ve done many other similar projects with the Ohio Wetlands Foundation. And we’ve served as a consultant on over 90% of their wetland mitigation projects.

Featured Project Denison University Cleveland Hall
Granville, Ohio

For this project, JHA performed an extensive building renovation and addition for Denison University. The existing Cleveland Hall was a historic structure that was originally intended for athletic facilities. At the time of the renovation, it housed the school of art and needed drastic improvements to functionality, occupant safety, access, lighting, ventilation, and technology, among others. Meeting design requirements for LEED certification, we completed the additions of a new studio, an administrative wing, and several plazas and paths for access improvements. This project is LEED registered and is on track to fulfill the requirements to become LEED Gold certified.
